Council services over Christmas and New Year

Greater Shepparton City Council will be closed for the holiday period from 3.00pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and will reopen at 8.15am on Monday 5 January 2026. For urgent matters in this time, please phone (03) 5832 9700 and follow the prompts.

Please check back regularly. This page may be updated leading up to Christmas as operating dates and times are confirmed across Councils many services and facilities. 

Council Offices (Welsford Street)

Aside from the closure period above, Greater Shepparton City Council’s Customer Service phone and email service is operating as usual. We encourage you head to our Contact Council page to see our current hours of operation, or to find our phone or email contact details.

Riverlinks

Riverlinks Venues, including the Box Office, will close to the public over the Christmas and New Year break from 3pm on Friday 19 December 2025 and reopen at 10am on Monday 12 January 2026. Ticket sales are still available online during the closure period.

Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre

Open 10am to 4pm, seven days a week. Closed only on Christmas Day.

Shepparton Sports Stadium

The Shepparton Sports Stadium will be closed from 3pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and will reopen for casual use at 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.

Regular Stadium programming will resume on Tuesday 6 January 2026. If you have any queries please contact Stadium Customer Service on (03) 5832 9480 or follow the Stadium Facebook page.

KidsTown

KidsTown Playground will remain open throughout the school holidays from dawn to dusk.

KidsTown Dig In Cafe will close at 2pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025 and reopen at 10am on Saturday 10 January 2026, when its normal operating hours will resume.

Aquamoves

Aquamoves will be closed on Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December 2025). All other days are as follows:

Outdoor Pools – Aquamoves

Our outdoor pools at Aquamoves will have different operating times throughout the summer season. Please check the table below carefully for times and dates. 

Outdoor Pools – Merrigum, Mooroopna, Tatura

The Mooroopna, Tatura and Merrigum Outdoor Pools will operate as per the table below:

Rural Outdoor Pools - Hours of operation

Please note – If the temperature is forecast to be 24 degrees or below the outdoor pools will be closed. When the temperature is forecast to be 38 degrees and above the pool opening hours will be extended. The above hours are subject to change. Activities in the Park

Activities in the Park’s final activity for 2025 will be on Monday 29 December, with the program returning on Tuesday 6 January 2026. Get excited and visit the Activities in the Park website for more information.

Resource Recovery Centres (RRC) / Landfill

Shepparton RRC

• Usual hours: Monday to Saturday 8am - 4.15pm, Sunday/Public Holiday: 9am - 4.15pm
• Christmas Eve: 9am - 2.45pm
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 26 December (Boxing Day), 1 January (New Year’s Day)

Ardmona RRC

• Usual hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 8am - 4.15pm, Sunday/Public Holiday: 9am - 4.15pm
• Christmas Eve: 9am - 2.45pm
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 26 December (Boxing Day), 1 January (New Year’s Day)

Murchison RRC

• Usual hours: Sunday afternoons 12pm - 3.45pm (revised hours)
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 26 December (Boxing Day), 1 January (New Year’s Day)

Cosgrove Landfill

• Usual hours: Monday to Friday 8am - 3pm, Saturday 9am - 11am
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 1 January (New Year’s Day)
• Please note: Cosgrove Landfill will remain open from 8am to 3pm on Saturday 27 December 2025 and Saturday 3 January 2026 to cover Kerbside Collections.

Shepparton Animal Shelter

The Shepparton Animal Shelter will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 10am on Monday 5 January 2026. During this period, staff will be working to care for the animals and where possible, reunite lost animals with their owners via appointments.

If the public wish to report their lost animal or believe their animal may be at the shelter, please email the animal shelter at animal.shelter@shepparton.vic.gov.au. Alternatively, if you believe your animal shelter enquiry is urgent, please contact the Emergency After Hours Animal Ranger Service via telephone and leave your details with the after-hours service. An animal shelter officer will contact you when possible.

If you are interested in adopting animal, please complete and submit the online Animal Adoption Questionnaire. Once the shelter reopens, staff will review the adoption applications and contact applicants as soon as possible.

After Hours Animal Management Service

Council offers an emergency after-hours ranger service which operates during the Christmas closure from 12pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 to 8.15am on Monday 5 January 2026, to deal with animal management emergencies, including:

• livestock on Council-controlled roads
• stray dogs
• dog attacks
• injured or sick animals
• other situations deemed by an authorised officer to be an emergency.

To report an animal emergency, please contact Council on (03) 5832 9700 and press 1.

Non-emergency situations such as reports of uncontained dogs, barking dogs and wandering cats will not be attended to by our after-hours service. If you wish to lodge a non-urgent animal management request, please lodge your request online at Councils website and an Officer will assess your report once Council reopens on Monday 5 January 2026.

Long Day Care / Rural Occasional Care / Kindergarten

Our Long Day Care services will be closed from 5.30pm on Friday 19 December 2025 and will reopen Monday 5 January 2026 with children attending from Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Rural Occasional Care will be closed from Wednesday 10 December 2025 (Katandra West) and Friday 12 December 2025 (Tallygaroopna).

Kindergartens will close from Thursday 18 December 2025 and reopen from Tuesday 27 January 2026. Please contact individual services for session close and start dates.

Maternal and Child Health Service

All centres will be closed from 3pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025. From Monday 29 December 2025 until Friday 9 January 2026, a reduced service to cater for new babies (newborn, two week, four week and eight week KAS visits only) will be available at:

• Balaclava Road MCH Centre, 205 Balaclava Road, Shepparton
• Riverside Plaza MCH Centre, Shop 21C 8025 GV Highway, Shepparton
• Mooroopna Children and Families Centre (Mooroopna Primary School), enter via Park Street, Mooroopna

Normal services will resume on Monday 12 January 2026.

Greater Shepparton Business Centre

The Greater Shepparton Business Centre will close at 3pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 8.15am on Monday 5 January 2026.

Goulburn Valley Regional Library

Goulburn Valley Libraries Branch Libraries and Administration Centre will close at 2pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025. 

Goulburn Valley Libraries, including the Mobile Library, will be closed on Thursday 25 December, Friday 26 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026. Our libraries, including the Mobile Library, will operate according to our usual opening hours on all other days. Open Library members at Tatura Library will have access to Tatura Library from 8am to 8pm every day.
