Celebrate your passion for native Australian plants by heading down to the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton Open Day this Sunday, from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton is just one of over 100 botanic gardens participating in Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand’s Botanic Gardens Day. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating the passion for plants’.
The Australian Botanic Gardens, built atop the old Kialla Landfill site, is home to native Australian plants including those native to our specific region. Weave your way through various themed gardens that reflect the cultural, environmental, historical and agricultural characteristics of the Goulburn Valley.
The official opening of the event is at 11am and will include a special tree planting and cake cutting by Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe to commemorate 10 years since the first planting at the gardens. Walking tours, plant sale, garden displays, nature activities, community grant information session and a sausage sizzle to follow.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said she is looking forward to celebrating with the many individuals and community groups who have made the day possible.
“The gardens are an asset to our community and an attraction enjoyed by locals and visitors alike,” she said.
The gardens can be accessed via Botanic Gardens Avenue off Riverview Drive or via the shared path network for those who wish to walk or cycle. Bike racks will be available on site.
Please note that no dogs are permitted at the gardens in order to native bushland, plants and wildlife.
