Greater Shepparton City Council is currently finalising preparations to commence the Drummond Road Drainage Upgrade works. The area was identified for urgent improvements as part of Council's 2020 Drainage Strategy, with a focus on addressing stormwater issues that have affected the community, and creating a plan to prevent future flooding at the key intersection.
Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure, Kelli Halden, said even short, intense rain events currently lead to flooding at the intersection.
“The completion of these important works will resolve this problem and also minimise localised flooding following major rainfall events.”
“Council officers have been proactively engaging with all businesses in the immediate area to ensure they are well informed before work begins”, she said.
The upgrade will involve installing new drainage pipes, stormwater pits, concrete kerbing, and resurfacing sections of road. Construction will start at the intersection of Drummond Road and Joseph Baldwin Place, continuing north along Drummond Road and extending 200 metres east on New Dookie Road.
To facilitate safe construction, the northbound traffic lane of Drummond Road will be closed between Joseph Baldwin Place and New Dookie Road from next Monday 30 September 2024 until the works are complete. The New Dookie Road and Drummond Road intersection will be managed by traffic controllers as required, with delays to be expected.
Please note, access to businesses in the area will be maintained throughout the works and their operations will continue as usual.
The contract for these works was awarded at the August Council meeting to Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd with works anticipated to be completed by late December 2024, weather permitting.
Works will take place between the hours of 7am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions where weekend works are required.

These works are fully funded by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program.
