Greater Shepparton City Council wishes to advise residents that feedback on kerbside waste and glass collection will close on Sunday 20 March.
As part of the State Government’s Recycling Victoria policy, Council is seeking to incorporate an alternative measure to remove glass from the current recycling bin and make changes to the frequency of kerbside bin collections to reduce waste into landfill.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe reminded residents that it was the last opportunity for them to provide feedback on the different options for waste kerbside collection frequency and the removal of glass from recycle bins.
“We want to make sure all residents have been given the chance to provide their thoughts on the proposed changes to glass recycling. Changes are being introduced across the state and Greater Shepparton needs to plan for the future,” she said.
“It is currently difficult to separate glass from other recyclable materials, and glass items often break in mixed recycling bins. Making changes to the frequency of bin collections will help improve recycling and the amount of waste going to landfill.
“We value what our community has to say, and providing feedback on how residents would like the waste changes made will assist Greater Shepparton in the future. The plan will be implemented over the next 12 months, so this is a real opportunity to have your say on how we should make changes to our waste in Greater Shepparton.”
Feedback can still be provided online until Sunday 20 March 2022 on the Shaping Greater Shepp consultation website. Feedback and comments received will be used to complete the plan prior to submission for final adoption at a future Council Meeting.
