Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to partner with AusCycling to bring the BMX State Championships to the region this weekend.
The State’s best riders will meet at the Greater Shepparton BMX Track, starting this Friday 26 November with official practice and then compete in the two day event for a state title.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said the weekend would be an action packed two days for the region.
“This weekend we are welcoming more than 450 athletes and their support teams to the region continuing our city’s proud history of hosting world class BMX events, having hosted multiple national events and successfully staging the 2020 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“This is a great opportunity for our local businesses to welcome visitors to our region and showcase our wonderful hospitality, restaurants and cafes and our brand new visitor attractions, the Shepparton Art Museum and Museum of Vehicle Evolution.”
AusCycling Executive General Manager Kipp Kaufmann said they were looking forward to the event returning to Greater Shepparton.
“After a tough year for so many it’s exciting to be back and hosting a major event in Shepparton. Riders and their supporters are excited to be back together enjoying the sport they love in a location and venue that is world class.”
The track will host a state coaching clinic on the Friday. Opportunities such as this are made possible from Council’s commitment and support to sporting groups to develop leading facilities, attracting the highest caliber athletes.
Council and AusCycling have worked together to ensure the event adheres to the directions of the Victorian Government and Chief Health Officer. To ensure the safety of the riders and event organisers the BMX State Championships event is open to the public and all athletes and workers aged over 12 years who are fully vaccinated from COVID-19.
Residents and visitors can attend the races at the Shepparton BMX Track from 12.30pm Saturday and 10.15am Sunday. Attendees must show proof of vaccination on entry. The final races on Sunday 28 November are also available to watch via live stream on AusCycling YouTube Chanel.
