Nominations for the biennial Greater Shepparton Cultural Heritage Awards are closing soon and residents are reminded that it is their last chance to nominate outstanding conservation work and research across the region.
Nominations close on Monday 20 February 2023 at 5pm and Greater Shepparton City Council is still on the lookout for impressive nominations under the following categories:
The Awards recognise outstanding contributions to cultural heritage conservation, research, education, promotion, interpretation, training and awareness-raising. They aim to honour individuals and organisations whose work has promoted and conserved the region’s diverse cultural heritage, while promoting examples of good conservation practice and guidance.
The 2023 Awards coincide with the Australian Heritage Festival in April and May 2023, and will be delivered by Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said the Awards were the perfect opportunity for locals to be recognised and acknowledged for the conservation work they have achieved throughout Greater Shepparton.
“We don’t want anyone to miss out on being recognised for the work they have achieved in the cultural heritage space. I encourage people to jump onto Council’s website, have a read of the guidelines and see whether they are eligible to be nominated for an award,” he said.
“There are ten Award categories which cover all areas of heritage conservation, maintenance, events, tourism and promotion across Greater Shepparton.
“Our region has an impressive list of heritage significant places, with some dating back more than 50,000 years, and this is the community’s chance to promote these sites and the work achieved.”
Nominated work must relate to the five years prior to the closing date. Entries can be nominated in more than one category, with a separate nomination form for each category. The 2023 Cultural Heritage Awards will be awarded at a ceremony to be held on Saturday 22 April 2023, presented by Council and the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee.
