As part of Greater Shepparton City Council's ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and improve traffic conditions in our community, Council would like to inform residents about upcoming works planned at the intersections of Obrien Street, Anselmi Street and Morrell Street, and McKean Street and Treacy Street, in Mooroopna.
In Summary
A Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) study was undertaken in 2020, and as part of the study, community feedback on road safety and traffic concerns was collected. The key concerns raised by the community included traffic speeding, traffic volumes, intersection safety and irresponsible driving. The community feedback also indicated a significant concern relating to speeding and rat-running within the road network in Mooroopna.
In response to the LATM study, several traffic calming measures have been installed throughout Mooroopna, and Council is now planning improvements at the specified intersections. The works, which may vary slightly, include kerb extensions, installation of speed cushions, signage and line markings, removal of parking in front of houses, and the improvement of sight lines.
The works are scheduled for completion by the end of June 2025.
Council’s Manager Engineering and Assets, Ben Gannon, said these works would improve traffic concerns in the Mooroopna area and enhance the region’s road safety.
“The primary goal of these measures is to address speeding, rat-running and improve safety for all road users,” he said.
“Speed cushions and kerb extensions are proven traffic calming devices that help to reduce vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for everyone in the community.”
