Greater Shepparton City Council is hosting a free community event, No Time to Waste, on Thursday 6 July to help residents learn more about waste and how to be more sustainable with the products they buy and use.
The event, to be held from 10am to 2pm at the McIntosh Centre in Shepparton, is a perfect school holiday activity for families with a kids play zone, real life big waste trucks and eco-friendly displays. Free food will also be available onsite along with a bus tour, leaving from the McIntosh Centre and taking residents to the Shepparton Waste Education Centre and Cosgrove Landfill.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the event is aimed for both little kids and big kids alike to come and understand the waste journey and learn how to be more sustainable with everyday products.
“We are sure the waste collection trucks will be a big hit with children, allowing them to sit inside and find out more about where our waste goes,” he said.
“Residents can also take the opportunity to visit the Cosgrove Landfill site to follow the journey of what happens to waste once it has been collected. We do ask residents to book a place for the bus prior to the day, as we only have a limited number of seats available.
“There will also be a viewing of WALL-E on the big screen for families to sit and enjoy and there will be free food available throughout the day. We are expecting it to be a great family day out where people can learn more about waste and how we can improve our sustainability habits.”
