Greater Shepparton City Council is inviting nominations from individuals interested in joining the Greater Shepparton Affordable Housing Reference Group as a community representative.
The Affordable Housing Reference Group advises Council on matters and issues related to Affordable Housing across Greater Shepparton, including assisting in identifying suitable sites, conducting relevant research, responding to the needs of vulnerable groups, promoting understanding and awareness of housing issues, advocating and sourcing external funding, and providing recommendations on policy matters, including the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme.
The group has representatives from Council and several member organisations involved in delivering Affordable Housing or representing those in need of housing. It also has up to four community representative positions for members of the community who are unaffiliated with these member organisations. The community representative positions are voting members of the group and are generally appointed for a two-year term.
Nominations for the community representative positions open today, Friday 10 February 2023. Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali encouraged residents with an interest in Affordable Housing issues in Greater Shepparton to apply.
“Council works closely alongside the Affordable Housing Reference Group. Members have an important role to play in providing advice, ensuring community participation and assisting Council to realise future Affordable Housing opportunities across the region,” he said.
“I encourage anyone with an interest in Affordable Housing to apply. The Reference Group presents an opportunity to promote understanding and awareness of the housing issues in Greater Shepparton and advocate for change.”
Group meetings are held once every six weeks or at other times as determined necessary. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 10 March 2023. Nomination forms can be lodged electronically or by hard copy and are available on Council’s website or in the foyer of Greater Shepparton City Council’s offices at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.
For more information or to register your interest in joining the Affordable Housing Reference Group, please contact Senior Strategic Planner, Quinn Maguire, via phone on (03) 5832 9700.
