Greater Shepparton City Council would like to remind residents to register their animals before 10 April 2022, to help reduce the number of missing or lost pets in the region.
Registrations are an important part of responsible pet ownership and provide assistance to future animal management programs.
Council’s Acting Director Sustainable Development, Sharon Terry said registrations are an important step in reuniting lost pets with their owners through the identification tags issued during the registration process.
“The heartache of losing a pet is all too well known for many families. Whether it’s through accidents or illness, we endeavour to return pets to their owners,” she said.
“Registration avoids the problem of dogs or cats becoming lost by making it possible for Animal Control Officers to identify the owner and return treasured pets.”
Identification tags are small and conveniently hang on collars with no discomfort to the dog or cat.
Residents with already registered pets would have received a renewal notice in the mail. Renewals are due by Sunday 10 April, however if you are welcoming a new pet into your life they can be registered at any time of the year.
If you or your pet meets one of the criteria’s on Council’s website you will be eligible for reduced fees. These include pets that are already desexed, animals under 6 months or over 10 years old, animals being kept for breeding purposes and more.
For more information on registering your pet visit our animal registration page or call 5832 9700
