Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to announce it will host the 2026 GWM BMX Racing National Championships in partnership with AusCycling, from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 April 2026 at the Shepparton BMX Track.
The weeklong event will welcome over 1,400 riders from across Australia, along with support crews and families totalling well over 4,000 visitors. When last held in Shepparton in 2023, the Championships boosted the local economy by approximately $6.4 million, highlighting its potential to drive significant interstate and intrastate visitation, bed nights, length of stay, regional activation and national exposure.
Beyond inspiring local athletes and encouraging healthy lifestyles, the event delivers strong economic benefits by supporting visitor attractions, retail, entertainment and hospitality businesses across Greater Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.
The Championships also offer a chance to showcase the state-of-the-art Shepparton BMX Track and Cycling Precinct, recently upgraded through the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program. The venue features a new multi-use events pavilion with elevated track views, providing spectators with a premium experience.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said hosting elite sporting events play a key role in showcasing the region and growing the local economy.
“Hosting top sporting events such as the 2026 GWM BMX Racing National Championships is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the region. We’re excited to welcome competitors, support crew, families and visitors for the weeklong event, and spotlight our world class BMX track,” he said
AusCycling Chief Executive Officer, Marne Fechner, is thrilled that the Championships will be back in Greater Shepparton.
“Shepparton has an established reputation for being a great cycling destination, having successfully hosted the BMX Racing National Championships four times in the last 15 years and two rounds of the 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series,” Fechner said.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events the Hon Steve Dimopoulos said events like AusCycling’s 2026 BMX Racing National Championships help to cement Victoria’s reputation as Australia’s home of major sporting events.
“We are extremely proud to have supported the Shepparton BMX Track upgrades to support events like these to take place on world class infrastructure.
