Greater Shepparton City Council is committed to supporting the community following the October 2022 flood event. To offer assistance, Council’s Social Recovery Quick Response Grant is now open to provide funding to assist with community led recovery activities.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available for small-scale projects that support the community to lead their own social recovery activities. Initiatives that are eligible for funding can include those that improve mental and physical health, build community resilience, assist community groups to engage volunteers, address social isolation, and respond to the impacts of the recent floods.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council were pleased to be able to offer these grants to assist the community in getting back on their feet.
“The October flood event left a devastating impact on the community. Many homes and businesses across the region were inundated with water and were faced with a huge clean up and repair task,” he said.
“It was an extremely tough time for people right across the region and Council understand the true importance of taking time to heal, recover and rebuild. Many community groups were also impacted and they have been crucial in their efforts as part of recovery initiatives.
“The Social Recovery Quick Response Grant is one of many steps Council is taking to assist in this recovery. I encourage local community groups and not-for-profit organisations to think of ways they can lead recovery activities and consider applying for funding.
“Council have a total funding pool of $20,000 available and we look forward to injecting this money back into the community to help the region on their path to recovery.”
Grant applications will close on Monday 15 May 2023 at 5pm, or until the funds are expended. Before applying, please contact Council’s Community Strengthening team to discuss your eligibility and suitability to the program on (03) 5832 9700 or via email at communityadmin@greatershepparton.vic.gov.au
