Greater Shepparton City Council has welcomed 20 emerging leaders as part of the 2026 Community Leadership Program, officially launched on Wednesday 13 May 2026 at the Peter Copulos Community Centre in Kialla.
Now in its thirteenth year, the Council-funded program brings together 20 local participants who will take part in a series of workshops and mentoring sessions designed to build leadership skills and strengthen local involvement.
Delivered by Shane Garner Consulting, the program runs from May to September 2026. This year’s program received overwhelming interest from across the community, and Council congratulates the 20 participants selected to take part. Participants will complete seven in-person workshops supported by online mentoring, before coming together for a graduation event later in the year.
The program covers key leadership areas including public speaking, goal setting, communication styles, resilience and understanding community and diversity.
Mayor and past participant, Councillor Shane Sali, said the program continues to support people ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.
“I wish this year’s participants all the best as they begin the program and take this next step in their leadership journey,” he said.
“This is a valuable opportunity to build confidence, develop practical skills and connect with others who are also looking to make a difference in their community.”
Past participant, Councillor Sam Spinks, Poplar Ward, encouraged this year’s participants to make the most of the program.
“I encourage everyone taking part this year to make the most of the experience and the connections you will build along the way,” she said.
“It is a great opportunity to learn more about yourself, grow your skills and gain the confidence to take on new challenges in your community.”
