Council disappointed by vandalism in Tatura

Greater Shepparton City Council is disappointed by recent vandalism at the Mactier Gardens public toilets in Tatura.

The damage has been reported to Victoria police, and all cubicles are currently out of order while investigations are conducted.

This incident follows a similar act of vandalism at the Stuart Mock Place public toilets, adding to recent instances of damage to community assets.

Council continues to work closely with Victoria Police to monitor these incidents and respond appropriately, while prioritising the timely repair and maintenance of community facilities.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said remediation works would be scheduled as soon as possible.

“These types of actions are deeply disappointing. Council teams are working to resolve the damage as quickly as possible to ensure these facilities remain accessible to the community,” he said.

“Public infrastructure is there for everyone to use and enjoy, and vandalism not only creates inconvenience but also results in unnecessary costs to ratepayers.”

Council anticipates that repair works at Mactier Gardens will be completed in the coming weeks.

Cr Rod Schubert, Midland Ward, said he was disappointed by the continued vandalism of community assets in Tatura.

“We are fortunate to have some wonderful community facilities in Tatura, and it is frustrating to see the actions of a small number of individuals impact the broader community,” he said.

“We all have a role to play in looking after our shared spaces and fostering a sense of respect and pride in our community.”

Council is calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying those responsible.

Anyone with information about past incidents or observe illegal behaviour are urged to contact Tatura Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
