Greater Shepparton City Council has welcomed the successful delivery of an A-League Women’s match in Shepparton, with Melbourne Victory taking on Newcastle Jets on Saturday 7 February 2026 at John McEwen Reserve, Shepparton Sports City.
In Summary
The match attracted an impressive crowd of over 1,000 attendees, with many travelling from Melbourne, regional Victoria and southern New South Wales to witness the A-League Women’s clash between Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets.
Melbourne Victory finished the match with a 2–1 result over Newcastle Jets.
The fixture formed part of a multi-day program delivered in the lead-up to the match, including school clinics, a junior masterclass and a community coaching workshop, providing development opportunities for local players, coaches and clubs.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said it was fantastic to see the community turn out to support elite women’s football in the region.
“The match was a great opportunity for our community to come together and experience top-level women’s football right here in Shepparton,” he said.
“To host an A-League Women’s fixture in our region is a significant win for Greater Shepparton and reinforces our reputation as a strong destination for major sporting events.
Melbourne Victory Managing Director, Caroline Carnegie, said the match in Shepparton highlighted the Club’s strong connection to regional Victoria.
“The Regional Football Showcase and Ninja A-League Women's fixture played in Shepparton was a special occasion for all involved,” she said.
“It represents another important moment in Melbourne Victory's connection to regional Victoria, epitomising why we are the club for all Victorians by bringing both elite sport and workshops that celebrate the world’s game to Shepparton.
“I would like to thank Greater Shepparton City Council for their collaboration on this event and recognise all the members and fans who attended to make it one to remember. We look forward to welcoming them to future matches.”
Shepparton South Soccer Club President, Gino Cirillo, said the club was proud to support the match day operations and be part of the event.
“Our club volunteers were pleased to support Melbourne Victory in delivering match day operations and help deliver a great experience for players and fans,” he said.
“It’s great to connect elite football with grassroots communities and show what it really means for our region.”
Delivered in partnership with Melbourne Victory and supported by the Victorian Government, the event demonstrated Greater Shepparton’s growing capacity to host major elite sporting events.
Council’s ongoing investment in sports infrastructure and community involvement continues to position Shepparton as a vibrant destination for major sporting events, with Council remaining committed to supporting sport in the region and welcoming more high-profile events into the future.
These events bring significant benefits to the local economy and promote healthy and active lifestyles within our community.
